VOD stands for “Video on Demand,” which means “video available anytime” in German.
Streaming platforms (YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, etc.)
- Here, VOD refers to content that can be accessed after a live broadcast or independently of fixed airing times.
- Example: On Twitch, livestreams are often saved as VODs, so viewers can watch them later.
TV & media libraries
- Many TV channels offer shows as VOD in media libraries, allowing you to watch them on your own schedule.
Gaming & esports
- In the gaming scene, VOD is often used for recorded matches or tournaments that you can watch afterward.
Difference to livestreams:
- Livestream = real-time broadcast
- VOD = on-demand recording of a previous stream or video
