Our trip to this impressive natural area was full of discoveries—from breathtaking views to exciting hiking trails. Here, we share our experiences and give you valuable tips on parking, hiking routes, and special activities in the region.
Our visit to the Wildförstersee

Wolfsberg Aussichtsturm (Wolfsberg Observation Tower) at the Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes Plateau) Duisburg
Right from the first glance at Wildförstersee, it’s clear why this body of water is so popular. The clear water, surrounded by dense forests, offers a perfect setting for relaxing walks or active exploration. The adjacent lakes like Haubachsee and Masurensee are also attractive destinations for nature lovers. We found the reflections of the trees on the water’s surface especially impressive, creating a different atmosphere depending on the time of day.
A special highlight is the Wolfsberg Aussichtsturm (Wolfsberg Observation Tower), which offers a breathtaking view over the entire Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes Plateau) Duisburg. From here, you can enjoy the vastness of the lake landscape and take amazing photos. The panoramic view is especially impressive at sunset.
Parking at Wildförstersee
One of the most important things for visitors is finding a suitable parking spot. A good option is the Wolfssee parking lot, located near the Seenplatten (lake areas) Duisburg. From here, you can easily reach Wildförstersee and other surrounding lakes on foot. Since many visitors come, especially on weekends and sunny days, it’s recommended to arrive early to secure a parking space

The Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes Plateau) is a huge recreational area consisting of six lakes:
- Wolfssee: The largest of the lakes, it offers a 450-meter-long sandy beach and a 30,000-square-meter sunbathing lawn.
- Masurensee: Popular for water sports activities like sailing and rowing.
- Böllertsee: A peaceful lake, ideal for walks and nature watching.
- Wildförstersee: Known for its idyllic location and peaceful atmosphere.
- Wambachsee: A popular spot for water sports and anglers.
- Haubachsee: Located in the southeast of the Seenplatte and an important bird protection area.

Our tour took us through dense forests, along quiet shores, and to some impressive viewpoints. The route that connects all six lakes is especially recommended — it gives you a comprehensive impression of the diversity of this natural area.
An absolute must for hikers is the Wolfsberg Aussichtsturm (Wolfsberg Observation Tower). The tower offers a unique view over the entire Seenplatte and is a perfect spot for a short break and unforgettable photos. The well-marked trails lead directly to the viewpoint, making it easy to include in any hike.
Special features and activities at the lakes
Besides relaxing hikes, there are plenty of activity options at the Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes Plateau) Duisburg:
Water sports: kayaking, rowing, and stand-up paddling
The Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes Plateau) offers a variety of options for water sports enthusiasts. Masurensee and Wambachsee are especially popular for activities like kayaking, rowing, and stand-up paddling (SUP). One local provider is the ALOHA SUP-Station at Wambachsee, which offers daily SUP introductions and rentals from May to October between 2 PM and 7 PM. An introduction course lasts about an hour and costs €39, while renting a SUP board costs €15 per hour.
Cycling
The area around the Sechs-Seen-Platte (Six Lakes Plateau) is crisscrossed by about 25 kilometers of hiking and cycling trails that lead through the natural landscape. These trails are perfect for exploring the lake landscape on two wheels.
Picnic & relaxation
Around the lakes, there are plenty of seating areas and meadows that are perfect for a picnic or a relaxing break. A designated barbecue area that can be rented is located on the southeastern shore of Wolfssee.
